RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper announced Boards and Commissions appointments.
Yesterday, Governor Roy Cooper signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency ahead of severe weather expected across the state. Tropical Storm Debby has the potential for life threatening flash flooding, riverine flooding, wind gusts up to 40 mph, coastal impacts and other effects.
Sen. Bob Brinson (R-Craven) was sworn in on Wednesday, July 31, to represent District 2 in the North Carolina Senate, which covers Beaufort, Craven, and Lenoir counties. He fills the vacancy created by Sen. Jim Perry (R-Lenoir), who resigned earlier in the month.
On July 23rd, 2024, New Bern Alderman Bob Brinson was nominated by the Republican 2nd Senatorial District Committee to serve the remainder of North Carolina Senator Jim Perry’s unexpired term. Senator Perry resigned his position on July 1st, 2024.

PINK HILL - A recent legislative change has validated the mixed beverage referendum held in Pink Hill during the November 2022 election. Initially declared invalid due to the town not meeting the required 300 registered voters, the town had only 281, the will of the people is now upheld. Senate Bill 527, signed by Governor Roy Cooper on Monday, lowers the requirement to 200 registered voters and retroactively took effect on November 1, 2022.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Senator Jim Perry, a Republican representing District 2, announced his resignation from the North Carolina Senate effective immediately. Perry, who has served since his appointment in January 2019, cited the completion of the short session and personal reflections on his time in office as reasons for his departure.
