Wood Ducks Avoid Losing Three Straight With Walkoff Win

For the second time at home, the Down East Wood Ducks got a walkoff win thanks to some timely hitting. This win puts the Woodies back in the win column, after losing back-to-back games to start the series with Fredericksburg. The Wood Ducks and Nationals continue their series tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Down East will send RH Tekoah Roby (0-2, 4.50) to matchup against Fredericksburg LH Alfonso Hernandez (0-0, 3.12)

Wood Ducks Fall in Extras to Fredericksburg

After tying the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a Luisangel Acuña two-run homerun , the Down East Wood Ducks ran out of gas as they fell to the Fredericksburg Nationals 7-5 in ten innings on Wednesday night. The Wood Ducks have lost two straight for the first time this season since May 13th (game two) – May 14th.

Sunday's Game: Three-run first inning pushes Down East past Charleston in finale

After scoring three runs in the ninth yesterday, the Down East Wood Ducks (13-5), playing as the Avocados Luchadores de Down East, scored early and never looked back as they took the finale, 4-0, against the Charleston RiverDogs (9-9), playing as Los Perros Santos on Sunday afternoon. With this win, the Wood Ducks have won their second road series of the season and continue to sit atop the Low-A East Central Division.

Wood Ducks Pitching Surrenders Three Homeruns in Loss to Charleston

After surrendering three homeruns, the Down East Wood Ducks (11-5) fell to the Charleston RiverDogs (9-7), 7-2 Friday night. The Wood Ducks trailed from beginning to end, only scoring two runs on five total hits. Down East looks to bounce back against the RiverDogs on Saturday with the first pitch at 6:05 p.m. The Wood Ducks will send RH Nick Krauth (0-0, 0.93) to the hill while Charleston will start RH Cole Wilcox (0-0, 2.25).

Down East Wood Ducks announce changes to concessions

The Down East Wood Ducks announced Thursday, along with their food and beverage partner, Delaware North, some new concession items that can be found around Grainger Stadium during the 2021 season. Fans will be pleased to see some familiar menu items as well as some exciting new additions to the concessions lineup. The new food items that fans can expect to see this year start with Kinston’s own award-winning King’s BBQ. King’s BBQ will be used for the Bang Bang BBQ sandwiches, Bang Bang BBQ nachos (loaded nachos), and the Five-Tool Tater Tots (loaded tater tots).

George Whitfield book launch held at Parrott Academy

A book launch event for Covering All the Bases: George Whitfield’s Extraordinary Life in Baseball was held at Ellis Simon Gymnasium on Parrott Academy’s campus May 3rd. The just-released book was authored by Bethany Bradsher, a Greenville journalist and writer known for numerous North Carolina sports books including Coaching Third about ECU baseball coach Keith LeClair and The Classic about the Dixie Classic basketball tournament.

11th annual Freedom Classic at Historic Grainger Stadium

The Kinston Lenoir County Parks and Recreation will host the 11th annual Freedom Classic today through Sunday at Historic Grainger Stadium located at 400 E. Grainger Ave in Kinston. The first pitch for the first game today (Friday) has been moved to 5:00 pm and gates will be open at 3:00 pm. The Freedom Classic will feature the Air Force Falcons versus Army Black Knights. Before Saturday’s game, F15E Strike Eagles from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base will do military flyovers. Military Appreciation and pre-game ceremonies will be held 20 minutes prior to each game.
