Salisbury, M.D. – After taking the 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh, the Down East Wood Ducks lost 4-3 on a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday night. After winning four of their last five games to end July, the Wood Ducks pitching staff starts the month of August with their 12th lead surrendered loss of the season.
After taking a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth, the Down East Wood Ducks and Fayetteville Woodpeckers entered a rain delay and were eventually suspended in the bottom of the fourth, Sunday afternoon. The Woodpeckers return to Grainger Stadium for a six-game series starting, Tuesday, August 24th.
After plating 15 runs last night, the Down East Wood Ducks struggled in an 8-4 loss to Fayetteville on Saturday night. Down East committed three errors and struggled to string hits together with runners in scoring position, as they had two opportunities with the bases loaded but left the runners stranded to end the innings.
Thanks to a late error, the Down East Wood Ducks defeated the Fayetteville Woodpeckers 7-5 on Tuesday night. The Wood Ducks surrendered the lead but managed to claw back with a three-run bottom of the eighth for their second come from behind win this season.
Daniel Dennie, aged 16, middle linebacker, and upcoming senior at Greene Central will be going to James Stadium, home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, to play in an All-American Bowl. The Bowl will be in January 2022.

After jumping out to a 4-0 lead early, the Down East Wood Ducks couldn’t hold the lead as the pitching staff surrendered seven runs between the third and fourth innings and fell 7-6 Thursday night, to the Carolina Mudcats, playing as the Carolina Micro Brews. This marks the 10th lead surrendered loss for the Wood Ducks pitching staff this season.
A scholarship that took years in the making, was recently endowed by two faculty members through the Lenoir Community College Foundation for students enrolled in the graphics program. Dwight Downie, Graphics Program Chair/Instructor and former Graphics Instructor Kelly Statum (retired 2018), primary contributors to the scholarship, made contributions over the past 30 years to establish the D. Downie and K. Statum Graphics Faculty Scholarship, for students enrolled in the graphics program.

Eight local high schools will compete at the second annual Lenoir Community College high school volleyball tournament in memory of Jessica Ramsey. Games will start at 9 a.m. August 14 on the Coach Bobby Dawson Court in the LCC Student Center.
