Suzanne Howard “Sue” Noble, 95, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Greendale Forest in Snow Hill. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Pink Hill Funeral Home, with visitation following the service. Interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Oak Ridge Memorial Park in Pink Hill.

Dear Mr. Mayor and Town Council: I am writing in regard to the loose/wild dog problem in Lenoir County and in particular La Grange. About 2 weeks ago, my neighbor’s cat was mauled by 2 dogs we believe are owned by people who live down the street. These 2 dogs ran across my back deck late one night and nearly killed my neighbor’s cat which I tried to stop from happening
This coming weekend, an exceptional group of Eagles will land in Kinston. The Savannah High School Alumni and Friends Association will hold its meeting beginning on Sept. 2, 2022. Beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, the association will host a meet-and-greet at the Community Council for the Arts.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers welcomed the students for their first day back. This school year three full-time certified Officers are assigned to the schools. Additionally, in working with the Board of Education, this year off duty Deputies will be supplementing coverage at the lower grade schools throughout the week.
Greene County Commissioner Derek Burress, and Lenoir County Commissioner Linda Rouse Sutton, completed the 100 Counties Prepared Emergency Preparedness Training for County Commissioners at the N.C. Association of County Commissioners’ (NCACC) 115th Annual Conference in Cabarrus County on Aug. 11.
Governor Roy Cooper announced the N.C. Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) will award over $17 million in grants to fund 39 local parks and recreation projects across the state. The North Carolina Parks and Recreation Authority (Authority) approved the grants at its meeting held on Aug. 26 at the Nature Research Center in Raleigh.
In the last ten years, North Carolina legislature's have passed successive bills that increased penalties and closed loopholes on school stop-arm violations. The 2009, House Bill 440 (Nicholas Adkins School Bus Safety Act in memory of the 16 year old student killed when a driver did not stop for a stopped school bus), added one critical provision to an existing law - allowing the use of automated camera and video recording systems to detect and prosecute violators.
