The recommended fiscal year 2023-2024 budget for the Town of La Grange was approved on Monday evening. The recommended budget proposes that the existing tax rate of $0.532/$100 and all other fees and rates in the General Fund remain at current levels.
Greene County Schools today announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with ESS, a leading education personnel and management company. As of August 14, 2023, ESS will begin managing the District’s daily and long-term substitute teachers.
Governor Roy Cooper signed House Bill 347, Sports Wagering/Horse Racing Wagering, into law. The bipartisan legislation will authorize and regulate wagering on professional, college and amateur sports and on horse racing in North Carolina.

Myrtle Ellen Murphy Howard, 86, of Snow Hill, passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Greendale Forest Nursing Home. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2023, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home, with funeral services beginning at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Craig Simmons officiating. Burial will follow the service at Oakridge Cemetery in Pink Hill.
