UPDATED: Pedestrian struck and killed in Pink Hill

PINK HILL — A Pink Hill resident died Thursday afternoon after being struck by a car on N.C. 11 in Pink Hill.
Around 2 p.m., James Lynwood McCandless Jr. was struck and killed near the Hwy 55 restaurant in Pink Hill.
“He was walking northbound in the southbound lane on N.C. 11, and he was struck by a vehicle,” State Highway Patrol Trooper Steven Heath said.
The driver of the vehicle was Wilbur Pierce Mintz III. According to Heath, charges are not anticipated to be filed against Mintz in connection with the accident.
McCandless, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene and was a resident of an assisted living facility, Glencare, that is near the scene of the accident.

According to State Highway Patrol Trooper Steven Heath, there was a pedestrian fatality in Pink Hill today. A vehicle struck and killed a person on N.C. 11 close to the Hwy 55 Restaurant in the southern Lenoir County town.
The victim’s name or any other details have not been released at this time by the State Highway Patrol.
