Adkin High School reunion to be held throughout weekend

The Adkin High School reunion will be in full effect throughout the Labor Day Weekend.

The school, which opened in 1928, will celebrate those who attended with numerous events throughout the next four days, while keeping tradition alive and upholding the blue and gold.

“It’s a legacy from the community,” Reunion Committee Chairperson Marilyn Patrick said. “It’s the beginning for many in Kinston with a lot of the individuals becoming doctors, lawyers, congressmen, teachers and nurses. This is where we started our journey to adulthood.”

Registration will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the Pirate Room with light refreshments being served. On Satruday, there will be a prayer service at 9 a.m. with a tour of the African American Music Trail, followed by an Alumni Picnic at the Gym from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a dance starting at 8.

On Sunday, there will be a worship service at United Free Will Baptist Tabernacle at 11 a.m. with a banquet at the gym scheduled for 2 p.m. Finally, a farewell picnic at the gym will be held Monday at 11 a.m.
