Dr. John Paul Black named Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at LCC

Dr. John Paul Black has been named the Vice President of Workforce Development and Continuing Education at Lenoir Community College (LCC) effective November 1.

He earned his Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University (ECU). In addition, he holds a Masters Degree in Education from ECU and is a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer. He also graduated from The Pablo Picasso Institute of Language Studies in Malaga, Spain with a diploma in Advanced Spanish Language Training.

For seven years, he worked on technology modernization projects in developing countries in Latin America. He also served as an educator and technical consultant for Microsoft Official Curriculum throughout Central America, the United States, and Germany.

Dr. Black has more than 30 years of public service and private sector education and technical training experience and has been in multiple leadership roles at LCC for the past 16 years in curriculum and continuing education.

In his current role as Dean of Students, a position he has held since 2013, he is responsible for all students across the service area and supports the needs and interests of his colleagues. At the system level, he has served on the Reinforced Instruction for Student Excellence (RISE) Core Team and the North Carolina Community College System Student Success Center as a Guided Pathways coach and facilitator of institutional assessments. He is a published author in professional and education publications and has presented numerous times on the state and national level.

“I am pleased to have Dr. Black leading the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division in the role of Vice President,” LCC President Dr. Rusty Hunt said. “He brings a vast amount of knowledge in all aspects of the College. He has extensive experience in workforce development, educational programs and student development. I appreciate his innovative approach to programs and services in serving the needs of our students and employers.”

Dr. Black said he is looking forward to his new role at the College. “My goals are to serve our communities in eastern North Carolina by promoting learning opportunities and building equity in access by connecting employers with well-trained and willing students.”
