This coming Saturday, March 23rd, Boy Scouts of America Troop 41 out of Gordon Street Christian Church in Kinston will have its 52nd Annual BBQ Sale. Proceeds from this sale are the major source of funding for the troop to be able to offer the same quality program as it has for the last 90 years.
Profits pay for purchasing and maintenance of necessary equipment, paying dues for its volunteers and even help cover the cost of certain activities that participating youth would be otherwise unable to afford. This BBQ sale has been a longstanding tradition in Kinston and something the community looks forward to every year.
For $8, patrons get a choice of either pulled pork or barbeque chicken with fixings, to be carried out or enjoyed among friends in the church’s Fellowship Hall on North Street. There will be two serving times: lunch from 11 am to 2 pm, and dinner from 5 to 7 pm. This year, we have made arrangements to have donated plates delivered to Mary’s Soup Kitchen to cover that day’s meal, thus turning the help our troop receives into a blessing to others in need as well.
Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. If you know you’re going to be joining us on Saturday, buying to take out or wanting to make a donation, and want to buy your ticket in advance, you can talk to any Boy Scout, Cub Scout or adult leader involved with Troop 41 or Pack 41, or you can send an email letting me know your name, contact information and number of tickets you’d like.
This community’s kindness, your kindness, helps our youth grow and learn on their way to being contributing members of society themselves. After all, Anthony J. D’Angelo probably said it best: “Without a sense of caring, there can be no sense of community.”
