A domestic altercation led to a massive law enforcement presence in southern Lenoir County Monday afternoon.
Lenoir County Sheriff Ronnie Ingram said the call came in just before lunchtime that an altercation had occurred near the intersection of Stroud Hill Road and Old Pink Hill Road north of Pink Hill. Ingram said a woman was meeting with her estranged husband to pick up a child when the altercation occurred and shots were fired.
“No one was struck or injured,” the sheriff said. “We were called to the scene and checked the residence and located no one at this time. There are warrants on file, and we do have other areas that we will be checking to see if we can locate the suspect.”
Ingram said the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous but said there was no indication the suspect was still in the immediate area. He said the LCSO is waiting to release the name of the suspect until all known addresses for the suspect had been checked.
Ingram said that reports of a hostage situation resulted from the fact that the male suspect has custody of a 4-month old child, who is believed to still be with the suspect.
The LCSO is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Kinston Police Department, the State Highway Patrol and the State Bureau of Investigation.
