Kinston's Rite Aid to close June 24
The last Rite Aid in Kinston is closing in less than three weeks.
June 24 will be the last day for the West Vernon Street location, but the store’s pharmacy is closing June 12. All pharmacy records will be sent to the Walgreens at 2201 N. Herritage St., but prescriptions can be filled at any Walgreens location.
In 2017, Walgreens completed the purchase of 1,932 Rite Aid stores and announced later in the year there was a process of closing some store locations nationwide. Starting in June 2018, the organization converted some Walgreens-owned Rite Aid stores to the brand.
According to a Walgreens spokesperson, there will be investments in the community “through the process of converting other Walgreens-owned Rite Aid stores to the Walgreens brand.”
Employees at the Kinston Rite Aid were not permitted to speak on the manner, but according to a Walgreens spokesperson, the organization is “committed to taking care of our team members throughout the process and expect to have positions at other locations for the majority of store employees who are impacted. (Walgreens) will be making every effort to find the same or similar positions for team members.”
