SNOW HILL — Greene Central protected its house despite adversity Tuesday.

The Rams defeated Wilson Beddingfield 21-25, 25-8, 25-22, 25-21 to give new coach Emily Nelson her first win with Greene Central. The Rams (1-1) fell to Farmville Central in straight sets Monday, and lost to the Bruins (0-1) in the first, but bounced back in their home opener.

“We came in with a lot of changes and didn’t know how to react at times,” Nelson said. “Once we lost that first set (against Beddingfield), we talked and they came back to rip the next three out. We worked for every point we had and Beddingfield kept it competitive, but the girls wanted it and wouldn’t let up.

Greene Central trailed 20-12 in the fourth set, but closed the game out with a 13-1 flurry.

“They dug deep and pushed — they really wanted a win at home,” Nelson said.

Madalyn Radford led the way with 11 kills and 10 blocks. Abby Burress had nine kills, Abby Vendemia added six and Daly Keel provided 10 service aces with Meredith Beaman adding nine.

The Rams travel to face North Pitt Thursday.
