LCC-Jones County to hold summer block party

LCC-Jones County to hold summer block party

A summer bash is planned for Lenoir Community College’s Jones County location today.

The free event will take place from 3-7 p.m. at the satellite campus at 509 N.C. 58 in Trenton. LCC Continuing Education Recruiter Ashley Murrell said it will be set up like a resource fair and open house for the community.

“Everyone can come through the building and we’ll have different stations to visit,” Murrell said. “At the end of the tour, they can go outside, get a hot dog and a drink, and we’ll have things like yard games, a bounce house, dunking booth and animals. It’s kind of like a block party.

“Because of Hurricane Florence, we weren’t able to have our usual fundraiser like ‘Beauty and the Beast’ or a lip-synching contest, so we wanted to keep our tradition going with Partnership. They lost their building, but we wanted to let the county know that we love and appreciate the area, as we all move forward.”

There will be more than 20 different vendors at the event and Miss North Carolina, Alexandra Badgett, is scheduled to be in attendance.

Murrell said she hopes the event will also open eyes toward the LCC-Jones County office.

“A lot of times, people don’t know we have classes here or think we exist, so this grants the opportunity for them to come out and see what we have to offer.”
