Holmes had a great first start at quarterback in the Vikings’ 40-14 win over Farmville Central Aug. 23. The junior went 17 of 28 for 294 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score offensively, while also picking up an interception at defensive back.

His nickname: Kodak, which came in the eighth grade when the rapper Kodak Black was trending

Alli Grant Avery, Arendell Parrott Academy, volleyball

Avery was a key contributor in the Patriots’ straight set victories over Rolesville Thales Academy and Harrells Christian last week. The senior had 10 kills and two blocks against the Titans on Aug. 21, then added 11 kills and three blocks against the Crusaders a day later.
