Greene Central wins first game under Jay Wilson

SNOW HILL — The Rams rode a strong defensive effort toward an 8-6 victory Friday, picking up the first win under first-year head coach Jay Wilson.

Greene Central (1-2) took an 8-0 lead into halftime after Eastern Wayne had a bad snap on a punt with 5:36 remaining in the second quarter. Debo Pigford scooped up the loose ball and scored for the Rams’ lone touchdown and the team was able to hold on.

Greene Central hosts Farmville Central Sept. 20.

 Ayden-Grifton rolls past Farmville Central

FARMVILLE — The Chargers picked up their fifth consecutive win over the Jaguars with a 40-12 decision on the road.

On Ayden-Grifton’s first play from scrimmage, Michael Webb scored on a 20-yard run. The Jaguars got within 7-6 heading into the second quarter, but touchdown runs from Webb and Josh Wright, along with a 97-yard fumble return touchdown by J.C. Darden, the Chargers (3-0) took control. Farmville Central picked up a long touchdown run late in the second, but Wright connected with Keyshon Best on a 45-yard score to put Ayden-Grifton ahead 33-12 at halftime.

Webb scored his third touchdown of the night in the third quarter to close the scoring. The Chargers will host North Pitt Sept. 20.

Jones Senior falls to Union

TRENTON — Jones Senior’s home opener was a tough one as the Trojans lost to Union 58-6 Friday.

The Spartans scored 30 in the first quarter and coasted from there, taking a 36-0 lead into intermission. Although the Trojans (0-3) picked up their first points of the season in the third quarter, it wasn’t enough.

Jones Senior travels to Rosewood Sept. 20.
