Martinez becomes ninth DEWD to receive weekly honor in 2019

The Down East Wood Ducks added one more to its “Player of the Week” flock.
Woodies outfielder Julio Pablo Martinez was named “Carolina Player of the Week” Monday for the timeframe of Aug. 26 through Sept. 2 to close out the regular season. Martinez batted .378 during the week and hit three home runs in consecutive games in the week. Martinez also had six RBIs, seven runs and an OPS of 1.059.
Martinez joins Diosbel Arias, Ryan Dorow, Yonny Hernandez and Yanio Perez for “Player of the Week” honors. Alex Eubanks, John King, Jake Latz and Tyler Phillips have all picked up “Carolina League Pitcher of the Week” accolades this season.
This season, Martinez finished fourth in the Carolina League with 14 home runs, while also contributing 58 RBIs. Martinez is rated as the 25th best prospect for the Texas Rangers according to MLB Pipeline.
The Wood Ducks travel to Fayetteville Wednesday for Game 1 of the Carolina League Mills Cup Semifinals. The first pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
