Reece Gardner: Allen McIntosh's "I am a tired American"
When we see how people in other countries of the world are willing to do anything within their power to become American citizens, it is somewhat tiring to have some so-called "leaders" in this country be so quick to join the "Blame America First" crowd. For example, when Congressman Schiff was asked this question: "Why not just stop this Impeachment charade and leave the decision up to the American people in our upcoming election?", he replied, "Because of all the cheating going on, we can't be comfortable with that position."
WOW! What arrogance! I agree with Allen McIntosh when he wrote, "I am a tired American. I'm tired of being called the Ugly American. I'm tired of having my country used as a whipping boy 365 days a year by the world's panhandlers who yank Uncle Sam's beard every time the flow of gold falters. I'm tired of seeing American embassies and information centers stoned and burned by mobs acting under direct orders from dictators who preach peace but breed conflict.
“I'm weary of seeing my country intimidated by way of placard, picket line, and sit-in, by hordes of the unwashed who rush to man the barricades AGAINST the forces of law, order, and decency. I'm an American who gets a lump in his throat every time he hears the Star Bangled Banner, and who feels that certain sense of pride when he hears the chilling high notes of the brassy trumpet as Old Glory reaches the top of the flagpole.
“I'm an American who thanks a merciful Lord that he was so blessed to be born an American citizen, a nation under God with justice and mercy for all. It is because we love our country that we must dedicate ourselves to preserving the Constitutional Principles on which it was founded. And if we are willing, you and I, to go out and bring to others the light of truth, as God has given us the wisdom to see that light, we shall not fail!”
A note on the upcoming election:
One Stop Early Voting begins on Thursday, February 13, ends on Saturday, February 29, and Primary Election Day is on Tuesday, March 3. I plan to have more election details in next week's column.
Now to close with a little humor: On the outskirts of a little town, there was a big pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucket full of nuts, sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts. "One for you, one for me," said one boy.
Several nuts dropped and rolled down toward the fence. Another boy came riding along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate and sure enough he heard, "One for you, one for me." He jumped back on his bike and swiftly rode away. Just around the bend he met an old man walking slowly with a cane. "Come here quick," said the boy, "The devil and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls." The man said,"Go away, Kid, can't you see how hard it is for me to walk?"
But when the boy insisted, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery. Standing by the fence they heard, "One for you, one for me." The old man said, "Boy, you've been telling me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord?" Shaking with fear they peered through the fence, but were still unable to see anything. They gripped the iron bars of the fence trying to get a glimpse of the Lord. At last they heard "One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done." The old man beat the boy to the gate!
Have a wonderful day!
