Greene Lamp receives grant for 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance Projects

September 11th is Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance. AmeriCorps, formerly the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) announced funding that will bring American’s together to focus on service to others through national days of service. Greene Lamp was the only organization in North Carolina to be awarded this grant which will support volunteer activities on the annual September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance and throughout the year.  

“This grant will focus on expanding volunteerism in the community that will honor the sacrifice of the families affected by September 11th and draw positive attention to all first responders, military personnel, and veterans,” said Priscilla L. Wiggins, Director of Senior and Volunteer Services.  

Greene Lamp will organize events throughout the year to promote volunteerism within Lenoir, Greene, Pitt, and Beaufort counties.  

“When you think about volunteering, we want you to think of us first,” said Miltia Grady-Wheatley, Volunteer Coordinator-Lenoir & Greene Counties.  

Greene lamp stated they were humbled to have received the grant funding in a press release and is looking forward to continuing the legacy of volunteerism across Lenoir, Greene, Pitt, and Beaufort Counties, respectively.  

“Since September 11, 2001 millions of Americans have come together with a common purpose to honor 9/11 and commemorate the tragedy through volunteer service. Together, they represent a shared belief that by neighbor helping neighbor, we can make our country stronger and better for decades to come,” said Greene Lamp in the press release. 

The first event will be Food and Hygiene drives for Veteran’s Homes and Homeless Shelters throughout all four counties.
