Help wanted: Lenoir County Health Department administrative assistant

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $26,673 - $47,069

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of this position is to direct the activities of the Management Support Division and serve as the HIPAA Coordinator for the Health Department. This position supervises nine staff members working in the areas of medical records, switchboard, appointment scheduling and preparation, reception, billing, eligibility, fee setting, data entry, and interpreting. This position serves a critical role in managing the organization’s electronic health record and other data systems involving insurance, business functions, and provider credentialing. This position is a member of the management team and reports directly to the health director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of HIPAA, data systems, records retention, office procedures, and confidentiality. Skill in using a computer, software, and related hardware; problem solving, decision making, short and long range planning, priority setting, and conflict management; customer service and public contact. Ability to develop policies, delegate, maintain effective working relationships within the division and between other divisions/departments, interpret policies and regulations, analyze content in order to make decisions, coordinate work assignments, and manage staff.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Completion of high school or equivalent and four years of progressively responsible secretarial or clerical/administrative/office management experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program and two years of progressively responsible secretarial or clerical/administrative, office management experience; or completion of a four-year program in a college or university preferably with major emphasis on coursework in business administration, public administration, or other related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
