Letter to the editor: Thank you, from Friends of the Homeless
The Friends of the Homeless emergency shelter has just completed its thirtieth year of operation. The Executive Committee of Friends of the Homeless wants to thank our community for its outstanding support of this critical community ministry since its inception. Due to the support of the United Way, churches, families, individuals, civic groups, and so many others, the shelter has been recognized nationally for its quality operation.
Our Executive Committee thanks our staff for their outstanding efforts during this pandemic period. The shelter has not closed our doors since the beginning of the pandemic and has provided services to the homeless of our community without any incidence of Covid.
As we enter our thirtieth year, there are still so many needs in our community for the support of the homeless including many of our treasured veterans, so your continued support is very much appreciated. Financial contributions can be made out to Friends of the Homeless, Inc. Persons interested in volunteering or providing other means of support may contact us at 112 N. Independence Street, P. O. Box 2136, Kinston, NC 28502, or 252-522-2788.
Special thanks to Jasper Newborn and James Wilkins for their years of leadership at the shelter and to all of our volunteers who help provide a safe haven for so many men, women and families throughout the year.
We are so blessed as a community and the Friends of the Homeless Shelter shines bright as indication of our commitment to all of our citizens. On behalf of our staff and entire Executive Committee, best wishes for a most healthy and prosperous 2021.
Sincerely,
Danny Rice, President
Executive Committee
