The Friends of the Homeless Shelter in Kinston has been graced with a new mural titled "Tree of Hope," painted by local artist Jamil Burton. This vibrant piece is more than just a splash of color on a wall; it is a symbol of community, resilience, and the shared journey of hope.
Amazon’s local Kinston plant and Lenoir/Greene United Way teamed up to donate personal care products to three local shelters. Donations of men’s and women’s undergarments, toiletries, socks and cleansing wipes were given to Greene County Interfaith in Snow Hill, SAFE and the Friends of the Homeless shelter…a donation valued at over $1,000.
This coming Sunday, June 27, will be a day of celebration at the Friends of the Homeless shelter located at 112 N. Independence Street. The celebration will have a dual focus. First, this Open House/Dedication will celebrate a new wing for women and children.
The Friends of the Homeless Emergency Shelter announced the retirement of their long-time shelter manager, Kinston native Jasper Newborn. His dedication and service to the shelter will be missed. Newborn has worked with The Friends of the Homeless for over thirty years. The Vietnam veteran returned to Kinston in the 90s.
The Friends of the Homeless emergency shelter has just completed its thirtieth year of operation. The Executive Committee of Friends of the Homeless wants to thank our community for its outstanding support of this critical community ministry since its inception.
On January 15th, the Jumping Run Church, LaGrange made a $7,000 donation to The Friends of The Homeless in Kinston.
Each “night” is a man, woman or child who had no place to go, no food to eat, and no way to keep warm in the winter or keep cool in the summer.
As this year comes to an end, The Friends of the Homeless is asking you for your help. Household and cleaning supplies are greatly needed.
