Help wanted: Lenoir County Landfill/Solid Waste permanent/ full-time heavy equipment operator
OPENING DATE: November 8, 2020 POSITION NO: 4720-17-065 PAY GRADE: 60 SALARY: $23,240 - $41,010.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: An employee in this class drives and operates landfill and heavy earth moving equipment to dispose of garbage and refuse. The employee is responsible for ensuring proper maintenance of equipment and performing routine repairs. Skill and care are required in operating the equipment. The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments, extreme temperatures and weather, and is exposed to various hazards such as noise, vibration, moving mechanical parts, atmospheric conditions, and oils. Duties may expose worker to human body fluids and thus the work is subject to the OSHA standards on bloodborne pathogens. Work is supervised by the Landfill Supervisor and is evaluated by observation and discussion.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. One or more years of experience working with heavy equipment preferred. Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
