Lenoir County Health Department Public Health Nurse II - OBCM/CC4C Starting salary: $44,516

The PHN II is responsible for an assigned patient case load of county residents that varies. Each patient assignment is made upon receipt of a referral from a medical provider or other agencies providing prenatal services to county residents.

The nurse is responsible for:
1. The management of the patient's pregnancy
2. Assisting with obtaining community resources to ensure a healthy pregnancy outcome
3. Ensuring prenatal medical services are received
4. Follow-up with any risk factors that may be detrimental to a healthy pregnancy outcome; developing and implementing a plan of care to ensure healthy outcomes; and providing data information to the North Carolina Division of Medical Assistance's data base - Case Management Information System (CMIS) The PHN II is responsible for the quality of the health care delivered to the patients served by the agency.

This work requires specialized knowledge in nursing theory and practices which include:
1. nursing assessment and evaluation.
2. principles and techniques utilized in the provision of nursing care.
3. coordination of services.
4. accurate knowledge of the Pregnancy Care

Management Program. Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:
l. Thorough knowledge of and skill in applying the nursing practices, principles and techniques, especially in public health
2. Knowledgeable in working in CMIS
3. Ability to exercise good nursing judgment and make decisions independently
4. Awareness of and inter-relationship with other agencies in the community
5. Expertise in the area of Pregnancy Care Management
6. Ability to speak to individuals or groups on issues relating to the public health areas of current assignment
7. Knowledge of current issues in public health
8. Ability to increase knowledge and keep current of nursing changes by attending workshops
9. Knowledge of available resources and organizations and ability to coordinate these as needed
l0. Ability to secure patient or family cooperation
11. Ability to record, interpret and utilize records and reports as well as medical instructions
12. Stay abreast of current social and economic problems relating to public health within the community

Minimum Training and Experience: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year of professional nursing experience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Current licensed to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing; valid N.C. driver's license
