Sen. Jim Perry (R-Lenoir, Wayne) released a statement following the Governor’s Executive Order declaration:

“I am thankful to see the uniform approach for school closings. North Carolinians, along with the rest of the country, are experiencing a significant life event that will be recorded in history. We will not regret making prudent decisions. This is not a time for overreaction, nor is it a time to throw caution to the wind.

”Everyone needs to take a deep breath and realize we are dealing with a virus, not a zombie apocalypse. Be smart. Don’t rely on hearsay for information. Practice social distancing, wash your hands, and follow recommended health guidelines. We are facing challenges, but our state is financially prepared to help provide resources where necessary.”

Rep. Chris Humphrey (R-Lenoir, Pitt) released the following statement:

“This is obviously an extremely tough decision but I trust the experts that it is a necessary one to slow the spread of this virus and keep students, teachers and staff safe. I have confidence that Brent Williams in Lenoir County and Dr. Ethan Lenker in Pitt County will work to place the safety of students, faculty and staff at the forefront of future decisions that will be need to be made and that they will work diligently to ensure that our children continue to receive the education that we are all charged to deliver in a calculated, timely fashion.”
