LCPS expands feeding program to include deliveries by bus

Beginning Monday, Lenoir County Public Schools is expanding its no-cost feeding program to include delivery of meals by school bus to numerous locations throughout the county.

LCPS will also continue to operate its five locations where eligible youth can pick up meals. Those sites – at Kinston, North Lenoir and South Lenoir high schools, Southeast Elementary School and E.B. Frink Middle School – are open from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. No dine-in service is allowed.

Delivery and pick-up service will provide the same meals and operate under the same rules.

Youth 18 and under and all LCPS students regardless of age can receive a hot lunch and next-day breakfast at no cost. Parents can also get meals for their students.

Expansion of the feeding program to include delivery comes after the district’s Child Nutrition Department provided more than 8,000 meals through the five cafeterias over four days last week.

“Our goal is to reach as many students as possible, including those whose families may not be able to get to our five cafeteria sites every day,” Child Nutrition Director Danelle Smith said. “The district’s Transportation Department and bus drivers stepped up without hesitation to make this delivery service possible.”

The schedule of stops is below. Buses will be at each stop for approximately 15 minutes. Designation of schools is simply a key to attendance zones and the areas in which meals will be delivered. Any eligible youth or LCPS student, as well as their family members, can receive meals at any location.
