The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:


Food Lion Deli

301 Washington Street, La Grange

Score: 99

Inspection date: 3/2

Observations:

Collards, pork chops, and rice temped below 135F on display line - shall be 135F or above;

Consumer advisory sign is damaged and is not legible - repeat violation;

Sinks in men's employee restroom and customer restroom need additional cleaning;

Ceiling tile in women's customer restroom has water damage and is sagging. Tile is starting to show signs of microbial growth. Corrected during inspection - tile replaced.

La Fuente Mexican Restaurant

107 North Central Avenue, Pink Hill

Inspection date: 3/3

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present;

Cut tomatoes in pan of ice cut sometime previously from room temp are 44-51F; these were moved to bottom of prep refrigerator to chill move quickly;

Knife sharpener stored above food preparation sink - move to approved location to prevent the possibility of residue on sharpener from contaminating the food;

Plexiglass between prep sink and handwash sink has been replaced, but has now cracked again. Three compartment sink cracked at top right corner;

Door for restroom in back is not self-closing;

Baseboard has peeling paint;

Discussed that aluminum pans for raw meats are sometimes set on cutting board of prep refrigerator. Manager states no ready-to-eat food touches this surface, but pans used for different types of raw meat do not need to touch it either;

Hugo Grocery and Grill

2951 Hugo Road, Grifton

Inspection date: 3/6

Observations:

Small Ziploc bag of raw chicken in freezer stored with raw meats that require a lower cooking temperature;

Two hamburger steaks are above gravy in hot hold unit and temp of them is 125F and 131F;

Consumer advisory needs to be reworded to notify customers that eggs, specifically, may be cooked to order;

Knives stored in knife block - block discarded; knife block slots are almost impossible to clean;

Door for inside restroom is not self-closing;

Dumpster open - shall remain closed;

Olympian

601 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Score: 100

Inspection date: 3/18

Observations:

Dish detergent stored above three-compartment sink in dish storage area - store chemicals in a designed location away from food or food contact surfaces;

Sanitizer solution used to store wet-wiping cloths was not strong enough;

Make sure to sanitize high touch areas;
