Jones County opens two storm shelters in preparation of Isaias

Trenton, NC – The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory for Tropical Storm Isaias that could impact Eastern North Carolina this evening and early Tuesday morning. In preparing for the storm, Jones County Government will operate two storm shelters beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020 with closing scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. 

The following storm shelters will be available: 

1) Jones County Civic Center- 832 NC Hwy 58, Trenton NC 28585 2) Jones Senior High School- 1378 NC Hwy 58 S, Trenton NC 28585 

Jones County is also making sure to take precautions in reducing the spread of COVID-19 among residents who seek shelter from the storm. The following are just reminders and guidelines if you plan to attend the storm shelter: 

1) All residents must check in at Jones Senior High School for COVID-19 screening 

(temperature checks and symptom questionnaire) before entering the shelter. 2) Residents should continue to practice social distancing in the shelter by staying at least 6 

feet (about 2 arms’ length) from other people outside you household. In addition, residents will need to stay in their designated areas. 3) Residents will need to bring face coverings as well as other personal supplies such as 

hand sanitizer, sanitizing/disinfecting wipes, non-perishable food, medications, hygiene items and items needed for children. 4) Residents should notify shelter staff immediately if they feel sick when they arrive or  while sheltering. 5) Transportation is available for residents who may need assistance getting to the storm  shelter. Please call the EOC at 252-397-0007 to set up transportation. 

Jones County residents are encouraged to make plans to stay in a safe place with family and friends or at a hotel outside of the storm impact areas to help reduce chances of being exposed to or transmitting the COVID-19 virus.
