From Kinston Police Department: As we prepare for Isaias to approach the Carolinas, we are being advised to expect rainfall totals between 3-5 inches during the storm. With these rainfall amounts, it is probable that some flash flooding may occur within the City of Kinston. Here are some maps of those areas.
Greene County will be opening a storm shelter on Monday, August 3 at 7:00 p.m. The storm shelter is located at Greene Central High School (140 School Drive, Snow Hill). This year, Greene County is taking precautions to reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 among residents who seek safety in a storm shelter.
The National Hurricane Center has issued an advisory for Tropical Storm Isaias that could impact Eastern North Carolina this evening and early Tuesday morning. In preparing for the storm, Jones County Government will operate two storm shelters beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2020 with closing scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.
Tropical Storm Isaias is moving northward along the Florida coast and has North Carolina in its path with threats of heavy rainfall, storm surge, damaging winds, isolated tornadoes, and dangerous rip currents. These conditions could cause power outages and road closures across portions of central and eastern North Carolina through Tuesday.
According to the Monday 630am Briefing on Tropical Storm Isaias from the National Weather Service, the storm has sustained 70 mph winds and all of Eastern NC continues under a Tropical Storm Watch or Warning. The most likely time of arrival of Tropical Storm Force Winds is Monday night, however, we could see Tropical Storm Force Winds as early as Monday evening. All of Eastern NC has a potential for tornadoes to occur before and during the storm.
