Local power outages updates

Hurricane Isaias became a Category One hurricane before hitting land around 11:10 PM near Ocean Isle Beach, impacting North Carolina as it made its way through the state. The storm was downgraded Tuesday morning. Here is the latest update on power outages in our area.

Kinston Public Services

At 10:45 am, Rhonda Barwick reported, “One particular area we are working on should return power to 270 customers in the Liberty Hill, Tower Hill, and Fitzgerald Dr. A tree fell on Highway 258 South that took out two poles and that is being worked on.”

At approximately 9:30 AM, Kinston Public Utilities Services reported on Facebook, “Currently, approximately 975 customers are without power. Crews continue to work to restore power to several large circuits along Hwy 258 South & Hwy 70 West. Crews are also working on service to many other areas including Towerhill, Girl Scout & areas near Carey Rd.”

“We had about 1,450 members without power at the peak of the storm on our total system with about 400 in Wayne County. At this time we have 433 outages total and 31 in Wayne County. We have a problem with our outage map and it’s not showing outages per county but we are working on it. Crews were out by 5:30 am working to restore services. We should have all power restored by noon today,” said Robert B. Kornegay, Manager of Member Services Tri-County EMC.

“We’ve monitored outages and system health overnight from the significant impacts of Isaias. We currently have nearly 200,000 customers without power in the Carolinas. In Lenoir County we currently have approximately 4,201 reported customer outages,” said Millie Chalk, Government and Community Relations Manager for Lenoir County in the Duke Energy update for Lenoir County.
