Lenoir, Greene, and Jones County COVID-19 vaccine information

Local areas counties released information on how their residents can register to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Lenoir and Greene County are in Phase 1B and Jones County is in Phase 1A. Here's what to expect and a link to know which group impacts you.

Lenoir County

Lenoir County residents aged 75 or older can register and set up an appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the Lenoir County Livestock Arena located at 1791 N.C. 55 in Kinston. The vaccine will be distributed next week Monday through Friday, January 11-15, 2021.

“We are doing something that is a little unprecedented. We are going to try very hard to do hundreds of doses of the COVID vaccine next week. We are going to focus on the population of 75 plus and then also be wrapping in the last of the 1A groups. It’s time for us to move into that 1B phase,” said Lenoir County Health Director Pam Brown.

Registered residents age 75 or older will receive a time slot for their vaccine and take part in a drive-through style event at the Livestock Arena. Interested residents should call 252-526-4202 or they can use the second number where a message can be left, 252-526-4200, extension 4323. A member of the health department staff will collect basic information and provide a follow-up call for appointment scheduling to complete the registration for the vaccine.

“We’ve had an overwhelming response from the community. We are working through the list of those people who are calling us and saying they want the vaccine. I’m so thrilled that there are so many people who are ready for the vaccine,” said Brown.

The process will be repeated three weeks later for the follow-up dose of the vaccine. The Lenoir County Health Department received 975 doses and will be using the Pfizer vaccine. The health department will receive another 975 doses for the second dose approximately a week before the due date for the second round of vaccines.

Greene County

The Greene County Department of Public Health is scheduling appointments for Phase 1B, Group 1 who are 75 years and older who would like to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. No walk-ins will be accepted at this time.

Greene County residents who fall in Phase 1B, Group 1 should call 252-747-8181 to schedule an appointment. Due to the volume of calls, residents may receive a busy signal and are encouraged to call back.

Jones County

“We now have vaccines available in Jones County,” said County Manager Franky Howard.

Residents of Greene County who fall in Phase 1A can call the Jones County Health Department at 252-448-9111, dial 9, then 9 again. They should leave their name, date of birth, and phone number. They will receive a call back to schedule their appointment. The vaccines are given by appointment only.

“Right now we are giving vaccines to folks to fall into Phase 1A that is determined by the state,” said Anne Pike the interim Health Director. “1A is healthcare workers that are fighting COVID-19, long term care staff and residents and any front line personnel. We have given them to front line employees as well.”

After Phase 1A, Jones County will move into Phase 1B which consists of residents aged 75 or older. If residents have insurance, they are asked to bring their ID and their insurance information for the county to be reimbursed for an administration fee. There is no cost for the vaccine.

Interested residents who want to sign up for their vaccine can also email the Jones County Health Department at health@jonescountync.gov.
