Salary Range: $28,296 - $42,006
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The primary purpose of this position is interpreting and translating the English and Spanish languages between staff and clients. When not interpreting, this position also receives clients, visitors and other public constituents visiting the agency for all programs and services offered as well as incoming calls to the agency. Must have good telephone etiquette, listening skills and the ability to perform work accurately and quickly while working in a crowded and noisy environment.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to interpret/translate all verbal information and written materials in English and Spanish. Significant knowledge of the ethics of interpreting. Ability to understand and interpret information in the various dialects of Spanish. Considerable knowledge of all programs and services offered by the agency, kept abreast of all changes and the functions of each unit. Also must possess excellent public relations skills, good oral and written communication skills, the ability to express, comprehend, interpret and convey information clearly. Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to resolve problem situations, be resourceful in gathering and giving program information and to answer most inquires and questions independently. Must have good computer skills and a thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet, and E-mail.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or GED and two years of experience in interpreting and translating English and Spanish in a setting that requires a knowledge of the programs or services. Demonstrates fluency and skill necessary to meet the needs of the organization and client populations served; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
