Early voting numbers for the 2021 Municipal Election
Early voting for the 2021 Municipal Election ended on October 30, 2021. Listed below are the early voting numbers for Lenoir, Jones, and Greene Counties. As of 10 am today for Lenoir County, 313 people voted through the municipal election. This is down from the previous municipal election in 2017.
Lenoir County
In Lenoir County, there are 13,520 registered voters eligible to vote in the 2021 Municipal Election. There were 2051 votes cast, or 13.00%, in early voting, and 14 absentee ballots were received. Pink Hill does not allow absentee/early voting.
“This early voting is 138% of what we voted in 2019 and 104% of what was done in 2017,” said Steve Hines, Lenoir County Board of Elections Director. “We should see somewhere around 2,300-2,500 voters tomorrow. That will get us around 26-28% turnover all. That is a little better than what we have done before.”
“We ask voters to get out and vote! This is an important election just like all of them,” said Hines.
Greene County
In Greene County, 279 voters utilized either early or mail-in voting. There are 1,668 registered voters. Snow Hill is the only Town with early voters. Both Hookerton and Walstonburg only allow Election Day voting.
“One-Stop early voting and absentee-by-mail turnout have been good for the Town of Snow Hill,” said Trey Cash, Greene County Board of Elections Director. “We received multiple compliments on how accessible and nice our new One-Stop early voting location was at the Snow Hill Fire Station. We are currently preparing for Election Day to ensure voting runs smoothly on Election Day for the voters in Greene County. Polls open from 6:30 am to 7:30 pm on Election Day.”
Jones County
In Jones County, there are no competitive races and 25 registered voters took advantage of early voting opportunities. Jones County has approximately 1,000 voters eligible to vote in the 2021 election between the towns of Maysville, Trenton, and Pollocksville.
“Voter turnout has been low, most likely due to the fact that all incumbents ran again and nobody filed against them,” said Jennifer King, Jones County Board of Elections Director.
