The Partnership for Children of Lenoir and Greene Counties has been awarded the Ribbon of Hope Grant from the NC GlaxoSmithKline Foundation in the amount of $25,000. Those Funds have been used to build a StoryWalk in Greene County and enhance the StoryWalk project in Lenoir County at Pearson Park.

The StoryWalk is a fusion of literacy expansion, motor development, and physical activity. This project is specific to Lenoir and Greene Counties and is intended to address healthy living as indicated by community needs assessments. Greene/Lenoir County Parks and Recreation and Greene and the Lenoir CountyCooperative Extension all collaborated on providing ongoing support to the project.  Through this project, residents of Greene County will now have a resource for education and healthy living. StoryWalk will also connect community partners and spotlight supporting businesses and initiatives.

On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, The Partnership for Children of Lenoir and Greene Counties hosted a grand opening celebration located at Greene County Sports Complex. The speakers at the event included members of the community representing Greene County Schools, Greene County Commissioners, Greene County Parks, and Recreation and the Lenoir-Greene Partnership for children. The new story walk is a great addition to the growing Greene County Sports Complex and Wellness Center.

For questions or ways to get involved with this project, please call Jennelle Lewis at 252-939-1200 ext. 236 or email jlewis@lgpfc.org.
