Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Irie Treats Bakery and Deli

602 N McLewean Street, Kinston

Date: 6/30

Score: 94.5

Observations:

Food employee washes hands then turns off faucet with bare hand.

A few utensils have not been cleaned thoroughly.

Chili in pot on eye is less than 135F.

No foods are date marked.

Deli meats in case are not labeled with name of the meats.

Stainless steal table shelf unit has holes where it has been altered and is soiled on inside wall.

Faucet handles and sink corners have build-up.

Floor cleaning needed under fryer and other equipment.

Lighting intensity short.


Hugo Grocery and Grill

2951 Hugo Road, Grifton

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

BBQ placed on fridge shelf below several pans of raw meat.

Fried bone-in chicken in hot holding cabinet is not hot enough.

Raw eggs on top of prep fridge stacked too high.

Two zip-loc bags of BBQ thawing in sink at room temperature.


Falling Creek Service Center

Observations:

Person in charge did not demonstrate proper knowledge of Food Code when asked questions.

No certified food protection manager present.

Employee health policy did not include Salmonella.

No procedures for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Some food in display unit were less than 135F.

Flies in kitchen.

Condensation line in freezer was not attached. Water dripping on food.

Wiping cloths laying on prep tables/drainboards.

Hand sink not draining properly.

No procedure in place for cleaning up vomit and diarrhea.

Flies in kitchen.

Some employees prepping food without hat or hair net.


Kentucky Fried Chicken

Observations:

No procedures in place for cleaning up vomit/diarrhea.

Small reach-in in drive-thru area gasket is not attached to door properly.

Inside of reach-in freezer and HVAC vent above chicken breading area needs additional cleaning.

Dumpster missing drain plug.

Paint chipping/peeling on walls in fry area.


Bojangles

Observations:

Stainless steel pans above chicken bread area were visibly dirty.

Some chicken on serve line, chicken behind serve line, and sausage patties were below 135F.

Many flies in kitchen.

Carts, shelving, chicken bread area, biscuit making area, chicken cooler, floors, and walls need additional cleaning.


Jessie Bell's

Observations:

Facility did not have procedures for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Bag of spaghetti noodles cooked on Saturday was not date marked.

Some of the ceiling covering is peeling/missing to light replacement.

Observations:

Mystery substance in spray bottle that was not labeled.

Flies and drain flies in kitchen, especially in dish wash area.

Gasket on some drawers are tearing.

Walk-in cooler door does not close tightly.

Walk-in freezer door in disrepair and does not close properly.

Shelving, dish machine, fryers, floors, walls, ceilings, inside of refrigeration/freezer, and HVAC vents need additional cleaning.

Dumpster doors need to be kept closed.

Dumpster area has trash on the ground.
