Second annual Kinston Cornhole Classic at historic Grainger Stadium

The Down East Wood Ducks will host the second annual Kinston Cornhole Classic at historic Grainger Stadium on November 6, 2021. The event is presented by Poole Reality.

“The Kinston Cornhole Classic is a great community event that draws players from all over Eastern North Carolina and even neighboring state,” said John McCormick, Down East Wood Ducks Director of Special Events. “The tournament brings business into Kinston for the weekend and showcases Historic Grainger Stadium. We’re excited for another successful tournament.”

The tournament will start at 11:00 am, but can arrive at 10:00 am when the gates at Grainger open. The registration fee for the social division is $50, and the registration fee for the pro division is $100. The top three teams in the pro division will take home prizes. 1st place - $1,500; 2nd place - $600; and 3rd place - $400. The social division will award prizes to the top two teams. 1st place - $100 and 2nd place - $50.

“We at Walter Poole Realty Inc., have always been avid supporters of minor league baseball in Kinston,” said Brooks Poole of Walter Pool Realty. “From the former Kinston Indians, to the current day Down East Wood Ducks, we are proud to put on the second annual Kinston Cornhole Classic.”

Those who wish to watch the event, but not participate, are encouraged to bring items for donation.

“We’re encouraging spectators to come join in on the fun this Saturday and we ask that you bring three canned food donations for Mary’s Kitchen in Kinston,” said McCormick. “Otherwise, there is a $5 entry fee.

Some of the items most needed for Mary’s Kitchen are water, white sandwich bread, individually wrapped bags of chips, and individually wrapped cookies. Canned vegetables are also needed including whole kernel corn, cut sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, whole potatoes, sliced potatoes, sliced carrots, and cut green beans.

“This event drew hundreds of people last year, from both Kinston and beyond, including the top players in the country,” said Poole. “We look forward to this being even more successful. See you there!”
