LCC holds Spring Open House
Attendees at Lenoir Community College’s Spring Open House took a trip around the world today, without even having to get out of their cars.
With a theme of “STAYeduCATION,” organizers said they hoped to both provide an outlet for those who haven’t been able to travel due to the pandemic while also opening students’ eyes to the opportunities available at LCC.
Richy Honeycutt, Director of Marketing, said Friday’s event aimed to bring potential students onto LCC’s campus to get information on the more than 40 programs and services the college offers.
“We’re hoping that we can reach our community and especially our high school students that are getting ready to graduate, to show them the things that are going on right in our backyard,” Honeycutt said.
Each degree or certificate program had its own table, representing a different country, each festooned with flags and representative items. Athena Wilson, Director of Student Success and Equity, who led the team organizing the event, said those tables were grouped geographically around LCC’s main campus, and attendees could learn about all LCC has to offer while driving through the event.
Each potential student received a “passport” that could be stamped by each “country” they visited, Wilson said. Completed passports could then be turned in to be entered in a drawing for a prize.
Friday’s Open House marked the second such event in the past six months at LCC, and Wilson said the events were designed to draw attention to the fact that LCC is open.
“We are open, and we are ready to serve students and so we are trying to get opportunities for them to come to campus,” Wilson said.
Though Wilson can’t promise a trip around the world every day, she said campus is open Monday-Friday (Monday-Thursday during the summer) for those who may be interested in pursuing further education at LCC.
“They can get a tour of campus, they can get a tour of programs, they can speak to any of our resources, like admissions, financial aid, or the registrar. We are here to help,” Wilson said.
Registration for the summer and fall semesters is going on now.
