The Lenoir County Farmers’ Market will be open on Saturday, April 3, 2021 between 8:00 am and 12:00 am. There will be a limited number of vendors on Saturday to include fresh flowers, farm fresh eggs, and granola.
“Our grand opening will be when strawberries are ready,” said Tammy Kelly, Director of Lenoir County Cooperative Extension. “Right now we’re open 8-12 on Saturday.”
The Farmers’ Market adheres to all the governor’s orders in place for the pandemic with hand sanitizers on all of the walls, in the bathrooms, with plenty of masks available.
“We’ll be depending on the governor's orders at the time. We had to do a confined area last year,” said Kelly.
In addition to local fresh fruits and vegetables, on the first Tuesday of each month from April to October at 10:30 AM at the Lenoir County Farmers’ Market participants can learn as the UNC Lenoir dietitian shares information on the health benefits of incorporating local produce into their meal plans.
“We just always considered this place to be a happy place to come to. The vendors are all like families, and our repeat customers are all like family,” said Patricia Jenkins, Lenoir County Farmers’ Market.
The vendor family lost three members last year, and they set up memorials at the Farmers’ Market for their families to come to.
The hope is that “the community understands the importance of agriculture to Lenoir County’s economics,” said Jenkins. “It is important for us to support our farmers and this is a way we have to support them.”
The Pork Skin Man will be back on April 6, 2021 after recovering from a motorcycle accident.
“People who live in cities don’t get this,” said Jenkins. “It’s another perk of living in a small town, especially in an agriculture community. Everyone should shop here.”
The Lenoir County Farmers’ Market is currently looking for more vendors.
