Celebrating an Honorary Police Officer with a Parade of Compassion

Lenoir County native Dixie Garner and resident of Signature HealthCARE of Kinston has always had a fascination with law enforcement and wanted to be one.

“We are a family here at Signature HealthCARE of Kinston and great things happen in Kinston,” said Carolyn Harper, CEO, and Administrator of Signature HealthCARE of Kinston.

Garner’s penchant for wearing his own police badge inspired Kinston Police Department Captian Milton Kivett’s wife, Shannon Kivett to celebrate Garner’s love of police.

“Dixie is a delight and we decided, as we strive to do with all of our residents, to make him feel extra special. It not only made Dixie’s day, but it moved everyone involved,” said Harper.

Garner was treated to a parade of police cars in front of the facility, and then, a meet and greet with the Kinston officers, including Captain Kivett and Major Keith Goyette.

“We would like to thank the Kinston Police Department for being so kind, and for the loyalty they showed Dixie on this special day,” said Dallas Garner, Dixie’s nephew. “It means a lot to me and my family. The Kinston Police Department and Signature HealthCARE of Kinston are the true heroes!”

The Kinston Police Department gave Garner a plaque, special badge, and shirt to signify his honorary status!

“Any time the police get to do something for a member of the public that is viewed as positive by everyone involved, it creates a sense of togetherness and culture of positivity,” said Captain Milton Kivett.

Signature HealthCARE of Kinston knows the value of these special moments for their residents, and is thankful to their families, community leaders, emergency responders, and compassionate city enough for their support, prayers, and love.

“It benefits everyone involved and we were honored to be able to make a difference in Mr. Garner’s life,” said Kivett.
