The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:


Plaza Garibaldi

1746 Hwy 11/55, Kinston

Date: 6/01

Score: 93.5

Observations:

No certified food protection manager present.

Dial thermometer is approximately 4 degrees low.

Food employee does not wear effective hair restraint.

Bins that store utensils and lids have crud/crumbs inside.

Knife sharpener is stored in contact with linens.

Personal electronics also stored in contact with linens.

Commode seat damaged & rough.

Base of mixer is wooden.

Dumpster has no plug.

Concrete floor has peeling paint.



Hugo Grocery & Grill

2951 Hugo Road, Grifton

Date: 6/02

Score: 97

Observations:

Food employee turns off water at handwash sink with bare hand.

Chicken broth stored on bottom shelf of refrigerator, uncovered while cooling, under raw meats.

Chicken salad date mark expired yesterday.

Stem-type thermometer not accurate.

Plumbing leaking under 3-comp sink.



Waffle House

601 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Score: 98.5

Observations:

Raw eggs are held for 4 hours with TPHC but time was not marked on card.

Wet wiping cloths left lying on counters and stored in sanitizer buckets with no sanitizer.

Several non-food contact surfaces need additional cleaning.



Upstairs @ The Market

222 N Herritage Street, Kinston

Observations:

Dish machine was not sanitizing properly.

Zester was visibly dirty.

Flank steak and shrimp were 43F-44F.

Bottom of reach in freezer needs additional cleaning.

Floor and floor mat in front of stove needs additional cleaning.



Blue Hornet Country Store

Observations: Food temperatures in prep unit were 42F-43F.

Chili chicken wings and hot dogs in prep unit were not date marked.

Gnats in dish wash area.

Sanitizer in wiping cloth bucket was dirty.

Bottom of pizza freezer needs additional cleaning.



Ken's Grill

Observations:

Employees are using cleaned hands to dispense paper towels from paper towel machine.

Employee cutting raw tomato with bare hands.

Raw shell eggs stored below ground sausage.

Foods in top of prep unit and cut cabbage in walk-in temped above 41F.

Ice scoop stored with handle in contact with ice.

Inside of cabinets and equipment handles and top of ice cream cooler need additional cleaning.

Some damaged floor tiles in BBQ pit room.



Pizza Plus

Observations:

Several flies in kitchen.

Top of mixer covered in duct tape.

Dry food bins, shelving, floors, walls, ceilings, and inside of reach in freezer need additional cleaning.



Jay's 108

Observations:

Knives in knife rack and a few places behind sushi bar had dried food particles and/or are catching crumbs.

Tomatoes, lettuce, and purple cabbage that were being used for making salads left at room temperature during inspection.

Menus are missing asterisk beside undercooked/raw foods.

Ice scoop holder in ice machine has a small amount of rust on the bottom.

Top of dishwasher and shelving needs additional cleaning.

Observations:

Food in prep unit was above 41F.

Prep unit not holding proper temperature.

Counter tops, inside and outside of equipment, floors, and return vent need additional cleaning.

Dumpster lids left open.



Ocean Bay Seafood

Observations:

Sanitizer in spray bottle was not strong enough.

Some dishes, inside of ice machine, and knife were visibly dirty.

Sanitizer and spray bottles were not labeled.

Two thermometers were not calibrated properly.

Flies in kitchen and back dish wash area.

Fish and shrimp stored on ice in prep unit.

Dishes stacked wet.

Second prep unit has not been holding proper temperature.

Shelving, prep tables, inside and outside of equipment, and floors and walls around fryers need additional cleaning.

Dumpster lid and grease trap lid left open.

Trash on ground around dumpsters.
