Paige Petticrew is the new Agriculture - Horticulture Extension Agent for Lenoir County. She lives in Pikeville with her husband, two dogs, and several chickens.

“Being a Wayne County native, I am familiar with Lenoir County and look forward to learning more about the agriculture, specifically horticulture roots in which it holds,” said Petticrew.

She graduated from The University of Mount Olive with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Education with Teacher Licensure. After completing her degree, she felt as if she was still not finished with her education, as there was still so much to learn. She went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Horticulture where she completed research working with swine lagoon solids creating a fertilizer and transplant media for herbs.

“Pairing my passion for horticulture with my love of education, extension seemed to be the perfect match,” said Petticrew. “I am able to share my knowledge of horticulture in an educational manner with all ages to hopefully create a passion in this community that is every lasting.”

She hopes to develop lasting relationships within the community and the organizations that she will work closely with, including the Master Gardener volunteers and the Bee Keeper Association.

“Horticulture is a great way to bring people together, which is absolutely what this world needs more of! It encompasses people who garden, farm, manage landscapes, enjoy specialty fruits, and much more!”

Petticrew replaced Peg Godwin as the Horticulture Agent. Godwin served Lenoir County for over 20 years.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve Lenoir County in this role. I am very excited to get involved in the community and share my love of horticulture.”
