Rev. Dr. Michelle Gooding: When Mamas Cry!
Mamas cry when any of their children are in danger. In lite of all that is stirring in our city, I feel so paralyzed. What can I do? What could I do? What are we going to do? Picture this, it is the beginning of February, Black History Month.
When I think of Black History Month, I think of pushers in the movement of Justice. Some cried, some died and some relied.
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Cried out, “I have a Dream”. Rev. George Lee died because he refused to end voter registration efforts and Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth relied on us to propel the Civil Rights movement forward. I, Rev. Dr. Michelle Griffin Gooding, am alive and well, and what shall I go down in history for.
It moves me to tears of all the sacrifices so many have made for people of color. As a person of color and a servant of people, I am compelled to do more for all. I would love to share with other ministers and leaders of all ethnicities and backgrounds in our city by sitting down together. I don’t know how this can happen and the attempt has been made before, but can we? This Mama is Crying!
