Meet Kaelyn Mohrfeld: Livestock Agent for Lenoir and Greene Counties
Pink Hill native Kaelyn Mohrfeld is the Lenoir and Greene Counties Livestock Agent for the Lenoir County Cooperative Extension.
“My family has been heavily involved with the agricultural industry since before I was born,” said Mohrfeld. “My family owns a pig nursery that was originally with JC Howard Farms.”
Growing up, Mohrfeld showed livestock including goats and pigs. She also competed on the 4-H Skill-a-thon and Livestock Judging Teams. A graduate from Arendell Parrott Academy, she attended NC State University and majored in Agricultural Science.
“It was at NC State University that I learned I wanted to come back and give back to my small rural community,” said Mohrfeld. “I wasn’t sure how I wanted to do that initially, but I knew I wanted to be a part of the agricultural industry.”
When the Livestock Agent position opened for Lenoir and Greene Counties, she knew she had found what she was looking for.
“It’s because of the programs I went through growing up in extension that made me the individual I am today,” said Mohrfeld. “I want to give back to a community everything that it gave me.”
Mohrfeld hopes to be a point of contact for the farmers and will work on building a relationship with them so they are comfortable reaching out to her for their needs. One of the bigger projects she’ll be working on is the 2022 Coastal Plains Livestock Show and Sale.
“I hope I can help make this the best show yet! With all that being said, I have some big shoes to fill since Eve Honeycutt stepped down,” said Mohrfeld. “But, being her shadow since I was 5 years old has definitely helped prepare me for the job.”
