Lenoir County Public Health - Environmental Health Supervisor

Salary Range: $48,806.55 - $67,280.37

Primary Purpose of the Position: Enforce state regulations governing food, lodging and institution sanitation, on-site wastewater systems, individual water supplies, public swimming pools, childhood lead poisoning, tatto operations, and methamphetamine lab decontamination; Educate the public; Manage the day-to-day operations of the department and oversee a staff of (5) five full-time specialists, (1) one part-time specialists, and (1) one clerical staff person.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Considerable knowledge of environmental health laws, rules, and procedures. General knowledge of office administration and management to include personnel policies and procedures and the budget process. Comprehensive knowledge of the duties and responsibilities of a sanitarian. Ability to function as a sanitarian. Ability to plan for and supervise the work of a small environmental health staff. Ability to motivate and educate business and property owners and the consuming public in matters related to protecting and promoting public health. Ability to present formal environmental health training programs. Ability to develop and express ideas and opinions concisely, comprehensively, and clearly in oral and written form. Ability to work with others in solving complex environmental problems.

Minimum edcuation and experience requirements: Two years of experience at the Sanitarian level in a health department.

Necessary Special Qualifications: Registered as a Sanitarian by the N.C. State Board of Sanitarian Examiners.
