Help wanted: Visit Kinston/Kinston-Lenoir County Tourism Development Authority - Visitor Experience Manager

Visit Kinston/Kinston-Lenoir County Tourism Development Authority is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Visitor Experience Manager to join our team. Visit Kinston operates the Kinston-Lenoir County Visitor and Information Center seven days a week and manages Tourism Development for Kinston-Lenoir County.

Hiring range is negotiable between $36,000.00 and $42,000.00, depending upon the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

The Visitor Experience Manager assists with planning and implementing various tourism development and marketing programs. This position is also responsible for performing administrative and office support duties that require a comprehensive understanding of the departmental mission, rules, regulations, procedures, and services. The Manager works independently and in cooperation and consultation of the Visit Kinston/Tourism Development Authority Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS:

• Collect and review data to conduct research; compile records and reports; create tables, spreadsheets, and/or databases to generate report information; maintains program files.

• Provide recommendations on equipment and technology upgrades.

• Meet monthly and serves as secretary to the TDA board and committees by developing the agenda, preparing agenda items, making meeting arrangements, and taking and transcribing minutes.

• Work with the Executive Director and accountant to assure proper record keeping of finances, budget, files, and documents.

• Plan and schedule special activities and events, as well as provide reports for management.

• Create, develop, and manage content for department’s websites; copy, edit, and proofread all web content. Review and obtain approval of the Executive Director before publishing.

• Work with Executive Director to execute marketing plans and design materials through graphic design for print, web, and social platforms.

• Keep up to date on the latest tools, web technologies, and social media methodology to evaluate how Visit Kinston can take advantage of opportunities to use new technologies and new approaches.

• Assist the Executive Director in the coordinating and facilitation of special events for Visit Kinston, including themes, concepts, objectives, and marketing.

• Work with the Executive Director to train part time staff, tour guides, and event volunteers; and ensure completion of setup, cleanup, and breakdown procedures.

• Manage bookings of LCVC boardroom and the kitchen.

• Research and recommend opportunities for special events/tour, symposiums, conferences, reunions, tournaments, and sporting events, and coordinate community partnerships with outside organizations.

• Serve as a liaison between hotels/lodging, attractions, tourism-related businesses, event planners, safety, and governmental representatives in the coordination of special events.

• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and Outlook.

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including at least one of the following: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

• High-level organizational skills, willingness, and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Ability to create, compose, and edit written and electronic materials.

• Ability to work successfully and collaboratively with minimal supervision.

• Ability to interact and promote positive relations with staff, volunteers, visitors, and citizens.

• Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time in all types of weather conditions.

• Willingness to work some nights and weekends.

• Ability to learn quickly and independently to assist with tourism development for merchants, property owners, the public, support staff, board members, and volunteers.

• Ability to be tactful and courteous while being persuasive and confident when representing Visit Kinston and KLCTDA/CVB.
