Lenoir County restaurant inspections

The following restaurant inspections were conducted by the Lenoir County Health Department:

Olympian

601 W Vernon Avenue, Kinston

Date: 1/03

Score: 95.5

Observations:

Employee health policy did not include salmonella non-typhoidal.

Facility did not have policy for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Employee touched ready to eat food with bare hands.

Some cold hold temperatures were 42F-45F.

Meat sauce in walk-in was not date marked.

Shelving, inside of reach-in freezer, and care need additional cleaning.

Some walls are in disrepair and some ceiling tiles are stained and cracking.


Jay's 108

108 B North Street, Kinston

Observations:

Employee health policy did not include salmonella non-typhoidal.

Facility did not have policy for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

Some foods were not date and held longer than seven days.

Wet wiping cloths left laying on counters.

Facility did not have method for testing high temp. dish washers.

Shelving, inside and outside of equipment need additional cleaning.

Dumpster area has trash and cardboard laying on ground around dumpster.

Light in women's restroom is out.


Kings Restaurant

405 East New Bern Road, Kinston

Observations:

Employee health policy did not include salmonella non-typhoidal.

Facility did not have policy for cleaning vomit/diarrhea.

A few plates/dishes, slicer, cabbage chopper, and pig cookers were visibly dirty.

Sanitizer in wiping cloth buckets was not strong enough.

Dishes were stacked wet.

Electrical box in walk-in #4 and some shelving in walk-ins were rusty.

Ceiling outside of hood on cook line, outside of collard cooker, dry food bins, inside and outside of refrigeration units, and fryers.

Ceiling in hall between dish room walk-in coolers has mold on it, wall behind dish machine is soiled and has peeling paint, some areas of pit room need to be re-grouted.


Subway

401 E New Bern Road, Kinston

Date: 2/18

Score: 98.5

Observations:

Employee health policy did not include salmonella non-typhoidal.

Some food on prep line was above 41F.

All unused equipment in back needs to be removed from facility.

Dumpster lid left open.


Queen Street Deli & Bakery

115 S Queen Street, Kinston

Date: 2/22

Score: 93.5

Observations:

Better cleaning needed on baked potato crock pot, panini grill.

Lower prep unit reading 49-50F.

Lettuce and cabbage stored in grocery bags.

Much better and frequent cleaning needed on all shelving, tea counter top, shelves and cabinets at coffee station, plastic sheet at mixer, lids of bulk storage containers, brown stacking storage and many other surfaces.

Cold water at hand-wash lavatory must have pressure corrected.

Concrete flooring needs cleaning and repainting.

Food labels need required information.

Observations:

Slicer and some pans were visibly dirty.

Some ready-to-eat foods were not date marked or improperly date marked.

Some spray bottles with cleaners in them were not properly labeled.

Some cutting boards have deep cuts, rough surfaces.

Inside and outside of equipment, shelving, floors, walls, rack between coolers, storage bins, dry food container/bins, and rice warmers need additional cleaning.

Wall beside hand sink has some damage/beats and bangs.

Observations:

Manager did not have new employee health policy in place.

Food in walk-in was above 41F.

Food in walk-in was not date marked.

Large gray bins in walk-in used to cool foods is not the best practice.

Dishes were stacked wet.

Shelving, inside/outside of equipment, floors, walls, ceiling, wire rack shelving in walk-in, ceiling vents, dry food bins need additional cleaning.

Additional lighting needed in walk-in coolers.
