A few years ago I wrote about the importance of attitude and how we are born with the capacity to control our attitudes. I want to follow up on that topic today. Attitude is more important than education, money, circumstances, failures and successes. It can make or break a company, a church, or a home. . So how happy do you want to be today? YOU DECIDE!

We do indeed have so much to be happy about and yet we sometimes find ourselves longing for "The Good Old Days." Let's look at just a couple of examples of those "Good Old Days", say 80 years ago. Baths consisted of one big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice, clean water, then all the sons and men of the house, then the women, then the children and, last of all, the babies. The water was so dirty by then that you could actually lose someone in it, hence the Saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."

Another example: Clothes washing day was just that - ALL DAY. It was done outside, with the clothes placed in boiling water in a large iron pot with plenty of lye soap. The clothes were then rinsed and hung up on a clothes line to dry, and then taken inside to be ironed by an iron that had been placed by the the fireplace to get it hot enough to do the ironing. WOW!, The Good Old Days. Comparing those days to the many conveniences we have today should help us maintain good attitudes. Having a good attitude also helps us to look at others in a more positive light. For example, we have all heard "redneck"j jokes, most of which tend to place people in a negative light. Let's turn that around by looking at these jokes in a different light, such as you know you are a redneck if:

(1) It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase, "One Nation under God." and
(2) You never protested seeing the Ten Commandments posted in public view and
(3) You will say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival." And,
(4} You bow your head when somebody's praying,
(5) You stand and place your hand over your heart when the National Anthem is played.
(6) You respect your elders and you raise your children to do the same;
(7) You've never burned an American flag, nor do you intend to, and
(8) You know what you believe and you're not afraid to say so. AMEN!

Now to close on a humorous note: A woman and her husband interrupted their vacation to go to a dentist. "I want a tooth pulled and I don't want any pain killers because I'm in a big hurry," the woman said, "Just extract the tooth as quickly as possible and we'll be on our way." The doctor said, "You are certainly a courageous woman. Which tooth is it?" Whereupon the woman turned to her husband and said, "Show him your tooth, Dear!"
