Help wanted: Lenoir County Public Health - Processing Assistant V - Environmental Health

Salary Range: $26,984 - $41,059

General Description of duties: Employee reports directly to the Environmental Health Section of the Lenoir County Health Department. Employee serves as clerical support and customer services front line contact for all Environmental Health staff members. This employee will handle all aspects of maintaining the office to run at peak efficiency. This employee will be the sole clerical support and therefore must be able to function without constant supervision and make clear legally sound decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to read, understand, and follow established policies and procedures. Excellent public contact skills are necessary to elicit information from customers from all educational levels through language barriers. Good oral and written communication skills are necessary. General knowledge of office procedures including filing and processing of records and permits. Ability to gather and give basic information and instructions regarding department programs when inquiries occur. Ability to coordinate work assignments with other individuals. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in problem situations independently.

Minimum education and experience: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least three years of office assistant/secretarial experience; or completion of a two-year secretarial science or business administration program with one year of responsible experience as described above; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
