ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT I - Minimum Annual Salary: $31,500
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Under general supervision, performs a variety of administrative functions in assisting the real property, land records, and listing divisions. Work involves researching, analyzing, editing, corresponding and reporting information as well as data entry and considerable contact with citizens. The employee will be working in a team environment under the direction of the Tax Division Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Establishes and maintains a variety of tangible files and computer spreadsheets, filing and retrieving information as requested or otherwise necessary. Writes, edits, prepares and mails correspondence. Develops written procedures for land records and real property divisions. Coordinates Board of Equalization and Review meetings and prepares all correspondence regarding appeals. Assists citizens by phone, e-mail, or in-person with tax inquiries. Answers questions or refers to appropriate staff member and/or County agency or department. Demonstrates tact and professionalism when responding to a wide range of questions or statements. Audits exemption, exclusion and deferment programs. Performs data entry for appraisal data. Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• General knowledge of office management
techniques;
• Working knowledge of modern office practices and
procedures;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft word and Microsoft
excel;
• Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in
writing;
• Knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to
the position as outlined by professional standards
and/or federal, state or local laws, rules, and
regulations;
• Ability to exercise tact and courtesy in frequent
contact with the general public, lawyers, and
businesses.
• Multitasking ability (i.e., the ability to handle more
than one job function at a time with accuracy and
diplomacy.)
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to perform the basic life operational
functions of stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching,
standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, talking,
hearing, and repetitive motions.
• Must be able to perform light work, exerting up to 20
pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds
of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of
force constantly to move objects.
• Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and
analyze data and figures, operate a computer
terminal, and do extensive reading and research.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of high school or equivalent and four years of clerical, administrative, or office management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must successfully complete the North Carolina School of Government Property Tax Listing and Assessing course and North Carolina Department of Revenue Present Use Value course within the first two years of employment.
