GEC Delegation Attends Conference
Hosted by Greene Central, the Southeast regional HOSA Leadership Conference was held at the Greene County Wellness Center on October 19. The SE regional consists of nine counties. This conference was to offer opportunities to develop leadership skills as well as hear from candidates vying for leadership positions. Only ten delegates from each chapter, with three voting delegates, could attend the event.
The Fall Leadership Conference was held on October 13 and hosted by Greene Central’s HOSA chapter. Students began the morning in an opening ceremony where they heard speeches from regional officer candidates. After the opening ceremony students participated in different leadership or team building activities. .
Following the opening ceremonies, attendees also participated in teambuilding activities with other chapters. One of the highlights of the event was a display of emergency vehicles used by Greene County Emergency Services. Students were allowed to go inside the trucks and listen to explanation by the paramedics. Also, each HOSA chapter was asked to donate items to the Ronald McDonald house
Recognized universally by the U.S. Department of Education and Health Science Education Division of ACTE, HOSA, is a national student organization. With a membership of 200,000, it is the largest student organization that prepares students to enter the healthcare field. Students from all backgrounds are encouraged to join a HOSA chapter in learning, sharing, and growing the heathcare profession.
GEC formed its chapter in 2022 under the leadership and guidance of teacher- sponsor Shontia Blount. Today the membership at GEC has grown to 39. This year, the chapter has been involved in activities for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Childhood Cancer Month.
