Crafting positive narratives in library-supported community growth

In the evolving landscape where libraries transcend their traditional roles, the Neuse Regional Libraries' Let's Connect program stands out as a beacon of hope since its inception on November 1, 2022. At the core of this transformative initiative is Joyce Hawkins, the dedicated social worker and resource specialist for Neuse Regional Libraries. Hawkins, expressing her passion for aiding those in need, emphasizes her creative and nontraditional approach in finding solutions, contributing significantly to the program's success. Her innovative strategies have played a pivotal role in positively impacting numerous lives within the communities served by the program.

One illustrative success story showcases a family's remarkable journey from living in a tent to securing essential assistance, including housing, furniture, utilities, and food, all facilitated through Let's Connect. Hawkins's commitment to addressing multifaceted needs, extending beyond immediate crises, is evident in the program's focus on fundamental challenges like housing, employment, and food insecurity. Let's Connect, under Hawkins's guidance, acts as a catalyst for positive change, bridging the gap between those seeking shelter and available resources, connecting individuals with job placement services, and forging ties with local food banks and services to address ongoing food insecurities. As a testament to the impact of Hawkins's efforts, the program has successfully aided a formerly incarcerated individual in securing employment, a vehicle, and a reunion with family, exemplifying the potential for positive transformations when individuals receive dedicated support.
